“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let is make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.”
Sunday Worship
Our Sunday morning Worship Services lean toward a traditional style, with glorious music to praise God. We are a diverse congregation, and aim to be a very child-friendly community, with special music and other activities for children. Currently our child care for children and infants is suspended but will resume once the Illinois COVID restrictions are no longer in effect.
The Presbyterian Book of Common Worship describes a four-fold shape of worship, consisting of (1) Gathering, (2) The Word, (3) The Eucharist and (4) Sending. Within these four primary movements are secondary parts of worship, such as: (under Gathering) Call to Worship, Hymns of Praise, Confession and Pardon, and the Peace; (under the Word) Prayer for Illumination, Scripture Readings, the Sermon, an Invitation to Discipleship, the Affirmation of Faith, Baptism, and Prayers of the People; (under the Eucharist) Offering, Invitation to the Table, Great Thanksgiving, Lord’s Prayer, Communion of the People; and (under Sending) Songs or Acts of Commitment, the Charge and Blessing.
Sunday School
(For now, Sunday School is suspended until further notice.)
C-W conducts Sunday School classes for children and for adults, starting at 9:30 a.m. For our children we use the “Growing in Grace and Gratitude” curriculum published by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which concentrates on teaching children the great stories of the Bible. These classes will resume once the Illinois COVID restrictions are no longer in effect.
Coffee Hour at C-W
(For now, coffee hour is suspended until further notice.)
Typically following the 10:45 AM service, this festive gathering will be reinstated when the COVID restrictions allow for large gatherings at Church. Taking place on the lower level in C-W’s Sawyier Hall, this time of fellowship and refreshment is coordinated by our Deacons. Special Coffee Hours, in honor or in memory of a loved one, or for a special occasion, can be provided. Please call the Church Office at 847-673-4441 for more information.
